Volunteers at Missing People help us to extend the lifeline we're able to offer to those affected by missing. Whether utilising skills you already have or learning new ones, volunteers support in different areas of our work from direct support on our helpline, to assisting staff teams in the office, to raising awareness about the work we do at events in local communities.

Policy & Research Volunteer

What you'd be doing

This is a brilliant role supporting our Policy & Research Team in a range of ways. It would include helping to develop a new 'Knowledge Hub', summarising research and policy reports, drafting policy briefings and blogs, and providing administrative support for campaigns. 

Qualities/Experience/Skills needed

  • An interest in 'missing' and related issues
  • An interest in policy, campaigning and research
  • Comfortable using computers and ideally experience of using programmes like Word and Excel

What this role can offer you

  • A fantastic opportunity to develop an understanding of policy and research within the charity sector
  • An opportunity to develop skills in analysis and writing for a national charity
  • There may be opportunites to attend parliamentary events and stakeholder meetings

Location and availability

  • You'd ideally be based within our head office in south west London, SW14 7JE. However, there is potential to volunteer remotely or from home
  • For you to get the most out of this role, we'd ideally ask for a minimum of four hours a week for three months

Events Support Volunteer

What you'd be doing

This role is really varied and flexible around your diary. It can include:

  • Being part of cheering squads for our amazing runners and cyclists at events
  • Join our enthusiastic bucket collection events across the city. You could even organise one yourself with our help
  • Help at our community events by assisting set up, welcoming guests, distributing information materials and more

Qualities/Experience/Skills needed

  • You like to be active in your community and want to support our vital cause
  • Motivated by making a difference, reliable and willing to get stuck in
  • Good communicator with a non-judgemental approach

What this role can offer you

  • Fun, flexible and social volunteering 
  • First-hand experience of event support
  • Make a big difference to the amount of funds and awareness we're able to raise so we can continue to be a lifeline 

Location and availability

  • Ideally you'll be happy to volunteer at least three times a year
  • Specific location depends on the event. Each event typically lasts between 1 - 8 hours

Bucket Collection - Richmond Station 

What you'd be doing

In order to continue being a lifeline to those that are affected by the 'missing', we need volunteers to help raise awareness of the services we offer with a bucket collection at Richmond Station on Thursday 28th June. 

Qualities/Experience/Skills needed

  • Good communicator with a non-judgmental approach
  • Motivated about making a difference, reliable and willing to get stuck in
  • If you're a musician, part of a choir or just have a special talent you want to share in aid of Missing People, please let us know

What this role can offer you

  • Practical experience in supporting a national charity
  • Opportunity to join us at future events as part of our Events Support Volunteer Team

  • The bucket collection is being held at Richmond Station on Thursday 28th June from 17:00 till 19:00 
  • Reference checks are required prior to the event

Poster Partner Network Support

What you'd be doing

Poster Partners display posters of people who have gone missing in their local area. They can be shops, gyms, libraries, cafes and more. We have hundreds of Poster Partners across the country and, over time, contact details have changed. We're dedicated to ensuring that these are up to date so as many of our vital posters as possible reach our Partners. You would be helping by contacting Poster Partners to clarify their details, helping to cleanse our existing data and making updates on our database. 

Qualities/Experience/Skills needed

  • Confident using the telephone and comfortable speaking to a wide variety of people
  • Have good attention to detail
  • Organised, reliable and methodological
  • Ability to input data onto a spreadsheet

  • Learn new skills
  • Become part of a lovely team of staff and volunteers
  • Project based role 
  • Full training and ongoing support provided

Location and availability

  • Central office in south west London - SW14 7JE
  • One four hour shift each week at either 10:00 - 14:00 or 14:00 - 18:00 
  • We need volunteers to commit to this role for a minimum of 6 months

Child Rescue Alert

If your child, or a child you know, went missing wouldn't you want the world to stop and look for them?

A Child Rescue Alert (CRA) is activated when a child is known to have been abducted or their life is believed to be at immediate risk. You'll get a text with the photo of the child and a number to contact if you want to report a sighting.

Every second counts and your support is vital.

Help Build our Network

Poster Partners are organisations and businesses who publically display poster appeals of missing people when someone goes missing in their area. Poster Partners play a crucial role in the search for a missing person and can make a real difference.

Examples of Poster Partners may include cafes, libraries, shops, offices, bars, pubs and restaurants.
